Lors du Festival du Film International à Toronto Keanu Reeves présentait son dernier film « Henry’s Crime » dont la Première mondiale a eu lieu le 14 septembre 2010
Le jour précédent, il a tenu une conférence de presse et, dès sa sortie un bon nombre de fans l’attendait. Parmi eux une Belge, qui se trouvait là par pur hasard, une de nos membres les plus fidèles et, avant tout mon amie, Stéphanie.
Voici le rapport détaillé de sa rencontre inespérée avec THE ONE. Un grand moment qu’elle n’est pas prête d’oublier !

Je suis allée passer quelques jours de vacances à Toronto début septembre, sans savoir au moment de réserver le voyage que le TIFF avait lieu durant cette période. Happy coincidence !!! Et ce encore plus après avoir lu que « Henry’s Crime » faisait partie des films retenus pour cet évènement important du monde du cinéma.
C’est un pur hasard qui a fait que j’ai rencontré « The One ». Il faut savoir que le Festival a lieu à travers tout Toronto, mais que les stars – hormis lors de leur présence sur le tapis rouge – restent dans ce qui s’appelle « The Village » qui est en fait le quartier de Yorkville, situé au Nord de la ville, près de l’Université. Les grands hôtels y sont rassemblés et c’est également là-bas qu’ont lieu la plupart des interviews et rencontres presse.
Je suis donc allée faire un tour dans « The Village » le 13 septembre matin, en me disant pourquoi pas, il suffit d’un peu de chance… mais sans résultat. Le but premier de mon voyage n’étant pas la chasse aux Etoiles (je sais, je sais…), j’ai alors repris le cours de mes visites, et notamment celle du Royal Ontario Museum.
En sortant de celui-ci, je remarque de l’autre côté de la rue qu’il y a 15-20 personnes qui sont rassemblées à l’entrée d’un hôtel. Pas curieuse pour un sou (hum, hum), je traverse et me rends compte qu’il y a non seulement « Monsieur et Madame Tout-le-Monde » mais aussi des photographes. L’hôtel étant par ailleurs « Classe », cela sentait la célébrité ! hahaha.
Je demande à l’une des personnes présentes qui elles attendent et me vois répondre qu’elles ne savent pas. Les seules infos dont elles disposent sont que cet hôtel est utilisé pour les interviews et que plusieurs « stars » sont à l’intérieur. Elles attendent donc au cas où… N’ayant pas grand-chose de prévu cet après-midi là, je décide de me joindre à la petite foule pour quelques minutes, après tout on ne sait jamais.
Après environ 3/4h d’attente, une publiciste sort de l’hôtel, son portable collé à l’oreille. Impossible de ne pas entendre ce qu’elle raconte, d’autant plus qu’elle s’arrête juste devant le groupe dont je faisais partie. C’est à ce moment que les mots « Keanu Reeves », « Interview », « Coming soon » arrivent à mon cerveau qui du coup est en alerte. Sa conversation terminée, et comme si l’on ne pose pas de question et bien on n’obtient pas de réponse, je lui demande si Keanu doit arriver bientôt. Très sèche, elle répond que oui, mais qu’il n’a pas le temps pour les gens qui attendent car son emploi du temps est chargé. Okaaaaay… Je demande tout de même si sa venue est prévue rapidement. Elle aboie littéralement – qu’elle ne répondra pas et que de toute façon ça dépend du trafic (ben oui, elle ne répond pas tout en répondant …).
Pas même 15 minutes plus tard, un SUV Volvo blanc s’arrête et en sortent Sheryl, une autre personne, ainsi que Keanu himself. Il s’arrête du côté où je me trouve pour signer des autographes, avant d’entrer dans l’hôtel pour ses interviews. Personne ne savait combien de temps il resterait, mais vu qu’il était entré, il faudrait bien qu’il ressorte 
Ce fut le cas 90 minutes plus tard, pressé par Sheryl, et le gars de la sécurité de l’hôtel qui le poussait littéralement dans le dos pour qu’il entre dans la voiture. C’est là que THE Moment arriva.
On était un peu plus nombreux à ce moment (35-40 personnes je pense, réparties des 2 côtés de l’entrée de l’hôtel). A sa sortie, les gens disaient – et non criaient – « Keanu, Keanu » tout en prenant des photos et brandissant des papiers et stylo.
Ayant finalement trouvé un papier qui m’avait fait défaut lors de son arrivée, j’y suis également allée de mon petit « Keanu, please ». Il se trouvait alors presqu’à sa voiture, à 3-4 mètres d’où j’étais, lorsque son pas à hésité. Il s’est ensuite arrêté malgré que le type de la sécurité le poussait, s’est retourné, m’a regardée droit dans les yeux et est venu s’arrêter devant moi avant de prendre mon papier et mon stylo pour signer un autographe. J’en ai profité pour lui demander s’il comptait bientôt revenir en Europe, ce à quoi il a chuchoté (!) qu’il n’en savait vraiment rien pour l’instant. Je lui ai alors dit qu’il devrait faire un détour par le Belgique s’il en avait l’occasion car il y avait beaucoup de fans. Il a alors signé quelques autres autographes avant de reprendre la route vers son hôtel je suppose.
Bref, j’ai finalement passé trois heures devant un hôtel alors que cela n’était pas prévu, mais quelle belle surprise !!! Keanu est adorable, très (très) mince, et bien qu’il paraisse un peu plus âgé qu’en photo, il ne fait tout de même pas ses 46 ans. Une grande aura de calme émanait de lui. Il m’a sans nulle doute procuré l’un de mes plus beaux souvenirs de voyage.

The actor was seen surrounded by people as he began filming on the set of indie film Generation Um.
Earlier he was in typical solitary pose as he sucked hard on his cigarette, but it didn’t stay that way for long, as two women stopped to chat with the actor.
And later he could be seen chomping on a cup cake – but rather than a celebratory one, like the one he had on his birthday, this time he was eating for the cameras.
Keanu will star alongside actresses Bojana Novakovic and Adelaide Clemens in the film which follows a day in the life of Reeves’ character and his two cohorts.

It was on the glittering red carpet at the Oscars in March that Keanu Reeves tossed us a most excellent bit of semi-news about a potential new "Bill and Ted" sequel. "I’m trying, I’m trying," he said.
Was he serious? Just joking in the midst of the overly serious awards season circus? We honestly weren’t sure. So when we got a chance to chat with Reeves again — this time at the Toronto Film Festival, where he was promoting "Henry’s Crime" — we had to probe further. Is a third "Bill and Ted" flick really in the works? Might Reeves reunite with co-star Alex Winter and writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon?

Perhaps. And Reeves is positively giddy about the possibility that it actually could happen.
"We’re trying. Alex and I are still friends and we’re talking, and we’re talking to Chris and Ed," Reeves said. "They’re going to try and see if they can write something. To me, I’d love to play the role. I’d love to work with Alex and Chris and Ed again."
"We’ll see what they do. If it’s a film that can stand up on its own … and I’m meeting people now, they’ve shown the film to their kids," he added. "We just seek to entertain, and if that could be something that could be worthwhile, on its own …"
Whether or not Matheson and Solomon hit on an idea that is worthwhile, of course, is only the first of many questions surrounding the chance that another "Bill and Ted" becomes a reality. But it’s worth noting, as well, how darn enthusiastic Reeves is about the project.
During our chat, he popped off joke after joke about "Bill and Ted," mixing his humor with genuine hope ("That would be amazing!" he declared at one point). He veered from one wacky pitch to the next — everything from a 3-D black-and-white sequel to a multi-director feature involving Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Werner Herzog. Will a third "Bill and Ted" happen? Who knows? But it sure is fun to hear Reeves launch into an impression of Herzog describing the project.
"I was just pushed by the idea of this innocence being confronted by the nihilism of the world," he joked. "And I thought that these two clowns could push our perspective of reality and truth to the forefront of meaning and knowledge."

Keanu Reeves était de passage dans la Ville-Reine dans le cadre du 35e Festival international du film de Toronto pour faire la promotion de Henry’s Crime, présenté en première mondiale.
L’acteur canadien, connu pour ses rôles dans Speed et dans la trilogie La matrice, a connu moins de succès au grand écran ces dernières années.
Il s’est présenté devant les journalistes avec un air joyeux, une barbe de trois jours et le look du guitariste d’âge moyen – il a 46 ans – qui ne peut se résoudre à arrêter de faire la fête.
Reconnu pour tourner autant des films à gros budget que des productions indépendantes, Reeves est apparu dans Thumbsucker, A Scanner Darkly, Rois de la rue et The Private Lives of Pippa Lee ces dernières années, tous des films qui ont échoué à attirer les foules.
«J’ai toujours espéré jouer dans différents types de films», a-t-il dit. Pour Henry’s Crime, Keanu est non seulement la vedette du film, mais il en est aussi l’un des producteurs. Une première pour lui.
Le producteur
«Produire est aussi une chose créative. Je suis attiré par les finances et j’aime réaliser différentes opérations et négociations entourant la production. Mais je suis aussi fasciné par l’aspect plus physique entourant une production, vous savez, faire un film, installer les camions, les caméras, les lumières, recevoir les acteurs.»
Ces paroles ne confirment pas un désintérêt de l’acteur envers le jeu, mais Keanu Reeves s’attend à produire, au cours des prochaines années, des films où son nom n’apparaîtra pas au générique.
«J’aimerais être capable de trouver du bon matériel et développer des histoires pour moi et pour les autres, aider des réalisateurs à trouver de l’argent pour tourner des films.»
Dans Henry’s Crime, Reeves interprète un homme très maladroit dont la vie va dans toutes les directions, sans but. Employé dans un poste de péage, il se fait prendre dans un braquage de banque qui tourne mal.
Même s’il est innocent, plutôt que de donner les noms des véritables coupables, il se fait condamner et purge une peine de trois ans de prison. Une fois libéré, il complote pour dévaliser la banque en question, se disant qu’il a déjà purgé sa peine pour le crime qu’il échafaude.
Avoir un but
Autour de Keanu Reeves, la distribution comprend James Caan, Vera Farmiga, Judy Greer et Fisher Stevens. Le réalisateur Malcolm Venville a piloté le projet derrière la caméra.
Keanu Reeves est un peu plus succinct sur la façon de produire un film, comparativement à ce qu’implique le jeu.
«C’est un genre différent de mendicité. Vous êtes un artiste et vous quêtez toujours. Mais, c’est une gentille forme de quête.»
Parmi les films cherchant des sociétés de distribution au Festival du Film de Toronto, il y avait un film de Lover avec Keanu Reeves et Vera Farmiga, actrice montante depuis son rôle dans "In the air" aux côtés de George Clooney.
"Henry’s crime" raconte l’histoire d’un homme accusé à tort d’avoir volé une banque et qui en sortant de prison trois ans plus tard décide de voler la banque en question pour de vrai. Pour cela, il doit s’intégrer dans la communauté et dans une compagnie de théâtre en particulier. Sauf qu’il tombe amoureux de l’actrice principale de la troupe.

Yesterday afternoon I was offered the chance to interview Keanu Reeves for his new movie Henry’s Crime – which just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. While I’ll have a lot more on the movie tomorrow (it’s a fun crime movie with just the right tone), towards the end of the interview, Reeves game me some brief updates on a number of projects he’s been associated with like Cowboy Bebop, 47 Ronin, Passengers, and Generation Um. He also told me about a few other projects he developing like the romantic comedy It’s Not Me It’s You and Psyched. More after the jump:
While I didn’t have a lot of time with Reeves so I couldn’t get in a lot of follow up questions, here’s what I learned:
- Cowboy Bebop sounds like it’s dead due to a high budget
- 47 Ronin looks like a project just about ready to go with director Carl Rinsch still helming. Reeves says “they’ve done pre-production, we’re still working on the script, they’re done pre-viz, and they’re doing location scouting. It’s ready to go.”
- Passengers doesn’t sound like it has a green light as he says it’s a “spaceship in waiting”.
- Finally, Reeves revealed he’s developing a romcom called It’s Not Me It’s You with Mark Hyman and a movie called Psyched with Kristen Gore about two psychics who fall in love.
Say what you will about Reeves, I give him a lot of credit for always working in different genres.
Finally, as I said in the intro, Henry’s Crime is playing at this year’s TIFF and Reeves is great in it. If you’re in Toronto and can get a ticket, check it out as the film doesn’t yet have distribution so it could be awhile before you can see it in a regular movie theater. Look for a lot more with Reeves tomorrow night. Until then, here’s everything he said on future projects:
Collider: You were attached to Cowboy Bebop for a little while. Any update on that?
Reeves: I haven’t heard anything back. They turned in the script and it was very expensive. I don’t know if they’re going to…it would cost, like, half a billion dollars to make that script. So, I don’t know where it’s at right now.
How about 47 Ronin?
Reeves: We are hopefully going to make 47 Ronin.
Is Carl Rinsch still on it?
Is it creeping forward or is it an express train forward?
Reeves: I think it’s a creeping express train. Which means that they’ve done pre-production, we’re still working on the script, they’re done pre-viz, and they’re doing location scouting. It’s ready to go. It’s a bullet train in waiting.
What about Passengers?
Reeves: Passengers is a spaceship in waiting.
You just started filming Generation Um. How is that going?
Reeves: Two days in and it’s going great.
For people that don’t know, can you talk a little bit about what it’s about?
Reeves: Yeah. It takes place over 24 hours. You follow this character named John. It’s basically the relationship between him and two call girls. He’s the driver and he ends up stealing a video camera and hanging with them in an apartment. It’s kind of about the interpersonal dynamics of this family.
Are you already thinking further ahead of that? Now that you’ve had a taste of developing with Henry’s Crime, are there other things that are sitting there that you’re thinking about doing?
Reeves: Yeah. Absolutely. I’ve been working with a writer named Mark Hyman on a project called It’s Not Me It’s You. It’s kind of a romantic-comedy. I’m working with a writer named Kristen Gore on another project called Psyched about two psychics who fall in love. I’m working on this film but it’s all with my partner Stephen Hamel who is doing our production company, Company Films. So, there’s other stuff trying to get done.
