… Aside from some holes in the backstory, Street Kings shaped up to be a really good movie. If you’ve read my reviews before, you probably know how I feel about Keanu Reeves. I haven’t enjoyed Keanu since Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but this film may have changed my mind. I really enjoyed him in this one.

The film has a notable supporting cast, including Naomie Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean, 28 Days Later) Cedric The Entertainer (The Original Kings of Comedy), Common (Smokin’ Aces), comedian Jay Mohr and rapper The Game.

In a film that was serious and intense, some well-placed dark humor lightened the mood. Ludlow’s attraction to tiny bottles of alcohol and his ability to use half-hearted racism as a weapon were just enough to break up the intensity.

Though many reviewers construed Reeve’s character as a racist, it was clear to me that the part-Hawaiian, part-Chinese actor was not the best actor to play a white supremacist. You might also consider his Latin girlfriend and his best friend, Capt. Wander, who is a black man. The racial attacks were carefully aimed weapons used to ignite anger in his foes, be it an ex-partner or a group of drug dealers.

Street Kings, despite its shortcomings, is an entertaining and surprisingly smart film if you pay attention. What’s not to like about a shoot ‘em up movie with dirty cops? Plus, anything that can make me like Keanu Reeves is certainly worth watching.

REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN SOUTHBURY — The buzz can be confirmed: actor Keanu Reeves has visited, and will return to Southbury later this month to film his latest movie. Reeves and fellow stars Winona Ryder, Robin Wright Penn, Julianne Moore and Alan Arkin have roles in the movie "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee," which will be shot in Southbury later this month. A production crew and a couple of actors and actresses, including Reeves, were in town Monday and Tuesday doing site work for the upcoming shoot, which will be in and around a condominium in the vicinity of Grove Pond Lane off Krueger Circle in the village.

… and Gort’s around” he reassured me, “Klaatu Barada Nikto! he had to be, It would like making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without any peanut butter!”

Keanu in Korea

Keanu Reeves has praised his Street Kings co-star Forest Whitaker, calling his performance "impressive".
"It’s pretty impressive working with him," he said of working with the Oscar-winner. "He’s just a remarkable actor and has great technique. When you act with him it’s very real to you."
Keanu also described his British co-stars Hugh Laurie and Naomie Harris as "really lovely people".
"She just brought such a depth and heart to it. Hugh has got a clarity he brings to the screen. We had a good time," he said.
However, being in every scene in the movie, where he plays tough cop Tom Ludlow, meant that Keanu didn’t get that much time to relax off set.
"In this gig, it was just getting ready for the next day," he said. "It was a really intense movie to make because we didn’t have a lot of time, so it was every day and I was in every shot of the movie, so I was like working 15 hours, 17 hours, 18 hours each day."

As most of you might already know, Merlin closed KeanuWeb. So sad news for all the Keanu fans who were used to check this site every day, like me, but sometimes we have hard decisions to take.
Merlin, this was a difficult and brave choice and I wish you all the best.
Good luck for the future, all my thoughts are with you.

Yahoo!7 Movies’ Tom Ragg speaks with ‘Street Kings’ Keanu Reeves about his latest film and whats coming up.

While in Seoul promoting his latest movie Street Kings, Keanu Reeves, during an interview, becomes especially excited on the mention of Yuen Wo Ping. He says he met Yuen Wo Ping, whom he addresses as master or Eighth Master in Cantonese, in Beijing around half a year ago to discuss a kungfu movie, tentatively called Tai Chi Tiger. He’d play a villain character. Tiger Chen Hu will play the lead as a Tai Chi master.

Keanu Reeves says that it’s still in scripting stage and that the film will be shot on location in China. He’d show the script to Yuen Wo Ping upon completion and hopes that Yuen Wo Ping would direct it. A few months back, Keanu Reeves was in Sichuan scouting locations with Tiger Chen.

On being enquired, Yuen Wo Ping says that he’s very happy and look forward to collaborating with Keanu Reeves, but clarifies that he’d only be the martial arts director. The film will be directed by Tiger Chen himself, in other word, its going to be directorial debut of this young member of Yuen Clan. Yuen Wo Ping adds that he has also invited Keanu Reeves for another project to be shot next year.

Keanu Reeves flew in to promote his new action flick, Street Kings. (2008). The Matrix star caused a bit of controversey with the Korean press with his stringent demands and secretive schedule. First, no one knew when he landed at Incheon airport, thus disappointing many fans and any opportunity for the press to take pictures. Next, the 44 year old actor insisted on a list of the participants and prepared questions prior to the press conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. All attendees were assigned I.D. cards and seats. In addition, cameras had to be checked in since picture-taking was not allowed in the press conference room. The cameras were returned to be used only at a set “photo” time…
… Keanu Reeves’s people apologized for the inconvenience and noted that Hollywood stars sometimes make such requests. And the flim’s distributor, 20th Century Fox, added that such measures were taken due to security reasons….
