In a film that was serious and intense, some well-placed dark humor lightened the mood. Ludlow’s attraction to tiny bottles of alcohol and his ability to use half-hearted racism as a weapon were just enough to break up the intensity.
Though many reviewers construed Reeve’s character as a racist, it was clear to me that the part-Hawaiian, part-Chinese actor was not the best actor to play a white supremacist. You might also consider his Latin girlfriend and his best friend, Capt. Wander, who is a black man. The racial attacks were carefully aimed weapons used to ignite anger in his foes, be it an ex-partner or a group of drug dealers.
Street Kings, despite its shortcomings, is an entertaining and surprisingly smart film if you pay
attention. What’s not to like about a shoot ‘em up movie with dirty cops? Plus, anything that can make me like Keanu Reeves is certainly worth watching.

Keanu Reeves says that it’s still in scripting stage and that the film will be shot on location in China. He’d show the script to Yuen Wo Ping upon completion and hopes that Yuen Wo Ping would direct it. A few months back, Keanu Reeves was in Sichuan scouting locations with Tiger Chen.
