Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates have joined the Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) remake. Connelly and Bates are both great oscar-winning actresses, who will surely bring a new level to this project. Connelly will play Helen Benson (played by Patricia Neal in the original), an employee of the United States Department of Commerce who meets Klaatu (Reeves), an alien who arrives on Earth with a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by aliens watching from far away.

If you want to run into Keanu Reeves, your best bet would be to hang out at Il Sole because this is the fourth set of photos, I’ve seen of him dining at the restaurant over the last few months. They must make a mean lasagna there! It looks like he wasn’t too thrilled about the press. But I will take Keanu mad, happy, sad, shirtless… you name it!
According to Variety, the actress has signed on for the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. She will take on the part of "Helen Benson", the character originally played by Patricia Neal (who hopefully will be able to make a cameo), and as she does in every film, the Oscar-winning Connelly will likely emote way too much. Sure, she’s fine for a lot of serious dramas, but when it comes to sci-fi/comic book movies, she hasn’t really fit the part since Labyrinth, and even then she was a bit too pouty. Of course, she may seem more chipper in this remake, as she’ll be acting opposite Mr. Serious himself, Keanu Reeves. As we learned long ago, Reeves will be portraying the alien Klaatu. Variety also reports that Kathy Bates may co-star in the movie, but doesn’t mention the role she’d play.

Like Keanu Reeves taking karate lessons on Stadium Way. Scott’s office secretary, Wendy, was setting up for the annual office safety picnic and only had her cell phone camera with her. Scott called me at home and asked me to go down to the park to get a photo of them together. Here it is. A sweaty and reluctant Keanu. All in all he was a good sport to let us take the picture.
 Scooped by Sneak Peek and confirmed by Playback, the remake of the 1951 sci-fi feature "The Day the Earth Stood Still" for Twentieth Century Fox, has now set up production offices at Vancouver Film Studios.
The film starts Dec. 3, shooting in Vancouver until mid-March, for a 2008 release. Canadian Keanu "The Matrix" Reeves will star for director Scott "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" Derrickson. |
