Keanu was a total gentleman the other night when he escorted his female friend to a town car, holding the door open for her to climb in first before getting in himself. He might look a little rough around the edges, but this edgy guy seems to have his manners firmly in place!

But what’s with the "Dad Jeans"? The waist on those are riding kinda high, doncha think?

Keanu Reeves long ago shook off that urban legend about his "secret wedding" to billionaire David Geffen - but he still can’t grab a bite with a buddy without people gossiping. One photo agency made much of Reeves’ dinner in L.A. this week with "a mystery male," noting that the actor "bagged himself a single rose afterwards." Reeves’ "companion" turns out to be an old friend, Rob Mailhouse, who has played in Reeves’ two rock bands. The rose came from a female fan at the restaurant where they ate.

Twentieth Century Fox has set Keanu Reeves to star in "The Day the Earth Stood Still," its re-imagining of the 1951 Robert Wise-directed sci-fi classic.

Reeves committed over the weekend to play Klaatu, a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth accompanied by an indestructible, heavily armed robot and a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by species watching from afar.

Erwin Stoff is producing, with Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") directing from a script by David Scarpa. Reeves’ commitment puts the picture on track for a late fall or early 2008 production start. Studio sees it as a tentpole.

The Klaatu role was originated by Michael Rennie. The 1951 film’s premise, a response to the rise of the Cold War after WWII, is being updated, and the film will use advances in visual effects.

It also returns "The Matrix" star to his strong suit in the sci-fi realm and puts him in back-to-back films for Fox. He just completed the David Ayer-directed "The Night Watchman," for Fox Searchlight/Regency about police corruption based on a story by James Ellroy. Forest Whitaker, Chris Evans and Hugh Laurie also star.

Randy (The Natural) Couture retained his championship Saturday, knocking out Gabriel (Napau) Gonzaga with a barrage of punches 1:37 into the third round in the co-main event of UFC 74: Respect.

Keanu Reeves was spotted on Sunday buying an issue of Wired magazine at a Las Vegas airport newsstand before boarding a Southwest flight to Burbank, California. The Matrix star was sportin’ what looked like it could have been a hickey on his neck.

At the weekend Keanu turned up, unbooked, with a party of 8. Luckily he’s Keanu so a place was found immediately. While deciding on what to eat he ordered 2 bottles of Cristal at 900 dollah a pop, then orders the chef’s menu d�gustation at 200 a head and three bottles of Chateau something for 750 dollah a bottle. He left a $2,500 tip. Apparently the best regular tipper is Drew Carrey who regularly leaves a 5 grand tip. According to very reliable sauces the waiters make over a 100 grand a year at Mix.

Amaury Nolasco: I just finished doing a movie with Keanu Reeves, Forest Whitaker… a great cast… an amazing script by James Ellroy and David Ayer called, The Night Watchman.  The film is actually directed by David Ayer. It’s a great thriller about LAPD Corruption. It’s insane. With Keanu of course… I call him the midas touch, everything he touches turns to gold. I’m very proud of this one.

John Corbett has been working on a film in Los Angeles starring Forest Whitaker and Keanu Reeves called "The Night Watch," set for a November release. It’s directed by David Ayer, who did "Training Day," starring Denzel Washington.  Corbett, who plays a station cop, describes the film as "a down-and-dirty cop story that’s really complicated."  Is he a good cop or a bad cop? He laughs and answers, "You just have to come see it to find out."

Britney Spears’ former husband Kevin Federline has been dropped from a role in Keanu Reeves’ new movie, according to reports.  The dancer-turned-actor was due to appear in The Night Watchman – with rumours abounding Federline was "appearing opposite" the Speed star.  However, reports allege Federline was fired from the forthcoming film, but was not informed of his ‘sacking’.  A source tells the New York Daily News, "He had a very small role – he was in a montage.  "He was fired from the film, but his manager didn’t tell him. Kevin found out when he turned up for a wardrobe call."  Federline’s manager declined to comment on the reports, however a representative for Fox Searchlight denied he was ever cast in the movie.
